Hypnosis is a non-pharmacological technique increasingly used in the clinical setting for therapeutic and anaesthesic purposes. The real-time monitoring and in-depth characterization of hypnotic state is expected to improve its rationale of use, for the benefit of patients in particular through the reduction of pharmacological agent dosage and side effects. The goal of this thesis is to discover new biomarkers of hypnotic state, which will be measured in clinical practice using an electroencephalography (EEG) device. To achieve this project, biomarker candidates will be identified from magnetoencephalography (MEG) and EEG data previously acquired from volunteers. Then, these candidates will be specifically investigated and validated using a new clinical protocol combining real-time MEG and EEG analyses. The thesis will be conducted in the mixed team CHU Grenoble/CEA at Clinatec which brings clinical, fundamental research and technological expertise to study the neurophysiology of hypnotic state.
