Carnot institutes

Carnot framework is in line with the french Pact for research, one of which objectives being to promote technology transfer, partnership between research labs and companies, and innovation development.

The strength of a multidisciplinary research network dedicated to its economic partners.

The Carnot label is intended to support partnership research, ie research works lead by public laboratories in partnership with socio-economic actors (mainly companies) in order to boost innovation and companies competitiveness.
The Carnot label is received for a 4 years renewable period by public research laboratories.

When it is labellized, each Carnot institute has to respect a few objectives of progress. In order to achieve these objectives, it receives financial support from the French Agence Nationale de la Recherche (ANR). The amount of received money is based on the volume of partnerial research lead with socio-economic partners. Higher industrial revenues five rise to higher financial support, in order to reach the objectives of progress.

These objectives aim at:
- ensuring scientific resourcing,
- improving institutes' professionalism (projects management, intellectual property,…),
- developping partnership with companies,
- improving the Carnot network integration..
